Help support Ryan to start his project on healing foods with his trip to Dubai!
I’m a food photographer who believes strongly in the connection of food and spirit. I have a passion for food and it’s loving preparation. I shoot about 30 restaurants a year for Lehigh Valley Good Taste. I’ve been a photographer for 25 years shooting for clients such as Crayola, Lehigh University, and other commercial clients. I have also given back to the photography community by teaching at the Banana Factory, Dan’s Camera City, Northampton Community College, the Pasela Program, UnSeenAmerica, and Faces of South Side with Broughal Middle School.
I have been developing a personal project about Healing traditions with food and I am making my first pilgrimage to start shooting in Dubai in March. There I plan on going into 3 kitchens and taking photos of traditional cooking.
The kitchen is the center of the home and the heart. If you want insight into a culture take a look at their food. When friends and family entered my mother’s home the first thing asked was, “Have you eaten?” Feeding friends and guests is our family tradition of showing love and respect.
In my travels and experience as a photographer when a family invites you to eat, never refuse.
They are inviting you into some of the most intimate experiences of their lives. This moment is something that I want to document and share with my audience.
My goal is to travel the world and share the traditions of healing and love expressed in food with everyone. In March, I have the opportunity to go to Dubai and help a friend teach courses at the Gulf Photo Expo, and I am fundraising for my flight and to add a week of travel expenses.
Dubai and the United Arab Emirates will be a chapter in a book devoted to healing food traditions.
The residents of Dubai have managed to forge out a tradition of hospitality in the harsh desert. I will show their love of family and food in photographs taken in traditional kitchens.
Specifically I will be identifying three kitchens to work with. One home, one restaurant and one from an elder who uses food as a source of healing. I will photograph the food they make, ingredients and preparation. The chef, the kitchen and tools will also be a special focus of what I shoot. I hope to use these images as part of a book on food and healing.
This fundraiser will help me to afford hotels, rental cars, food, and miscellaneous travel expenses.
I’m asking you to contribute because everything I have done has always been a collaboration between friends and family. It’s only with your love and support that we can make this happen.
Please take the time to look at some of the rewards that we are offering.
Making a contribution will bring a piece of this exciting endeavor into your home and make YOU a part of this project. Thanks for taking the time to watch and please share this video with your friends.
